"God loves you just the way you are, but...."

Nar1 - Fears, it’s no secret we all have them.

Some of them common, others very unique.

Nar2 - Like the fear of the dreaded octopus?

Nar1 - Seriously, I am talking about the fear of heights,
the fear of rejection, the fear of death or change.

Nar3 - I don’t know about you but I am afraid of the
future. I don’t know what I am going to do after
high school.

Nar1 - Fear, this is not the first era to live under the cloud
of fear.

Only some of our fears are the sort that make us
jump.

It seems most fears, are just everyday fears that are
the result of circumstances beyond our control. You know, situations that make us feel helpless.

Nar2 - Like in the following skit.

It seems Joey, Ralph, Johnny and Gino have made a pact to be friends to the end. Gino, is pressuring the group to climb the Milltown water tower and spray paint their names on tower, as a sign of their unity. Johnny is not to sure about this.

SCENE 1

Gino - Yo, Ralphie, are you boys ready to make some mischief?

Ralp - Yeah man, we are gonna show this town who we
boys are.

John - What do you mean?

Joey - What he means, is that we are going to climb the
water tower and paint our names on the tower.

John - Can’t we get busted for doing something like that?

Gino - What’s the matter? Your not scared, are you?

John - NO, I’m not scared

Gino - Then what’s the matter?

John - I, ah...

Ralp - You wouldn’t be chickening out on us would you?

Joey - Remember our pact, Brothers forever?

Gino - This is our posse. We cover each other’s back.

PAUSE

Nar3 - The 4 guys climb to the top of the Milltown water
tower

SCENE 1 cont.

Ralp - Man!, what a view.

Joey - I feel like I am on the top of the world.

Gino - Hey, Johnny, what’s the matter. Your not scared
are you

John - A...a...NO

Gino - The why don’t you paint your name first.

J&R - Yeah, Johnny you sign your name first.

John - What happens if we get caught?

Joey - Whose gonna catch us up here?

Ralp - You’re not backing down are you?

Gino - Don’t back out on your brotherhood now Johnny. Trust me you don’t want to face the consequences.

Joey - So what are you going to do, Johnny?

SCENE 1 ENDS

N1 - What do you think Johnny is going to do?

N2 - I know I wouldn’t even be up there. I’m afraid of
heights.

N3 - What do you think Jesus would do? Do you think He would be afraid?

N2 - Jesus was never afraid.

N1 - That’s not true! Remember Jesus’ desperate prayer in Gethsemane. The Bible says, "In His anguish He prayed more earnestly, and His sweat became like drops of blood." Jesus faced the prospect of the
most agonizing suffering imaginable.

N2 - Which means that Jesus faced fearful situations just
like we do?

N1 - Exactly.

N3 - What did Jesus do about it?

N1 - Jesus gives us the perfect example of what to do
when we are afraid.

First - Jesus prayed about the situation.

Second - Jesus did what He had to do. Jesus knew the
risks involved in going to Jerusalem, but He
went anyway.

Third - Jesus trusted God to take care of Him. Jesus ended His prayer with these words: "Yet not as I will,
but as You will."

N3 - What would Jesus do walking in your shoes, working
at your job, going to your school. I hear people
say, Jesus is the way. I believe and that is why
I'm asking you

What would Jesus do?

N2 - My problem isn’t so much with fears as with temptation.

N1 - Yeah, I know what you mean. I want to live like Jesus but sometimes it is just so hard. There are just so
many distractions and temptations. Sometimes I
feel like the world is trying to seduce me away
from God.

N3 - You have to wonder how Jesus managed to live
without sinning.

N2 - It was a lot easier back when Jesus lived.

N1 - Jesus may not have been tempted with the things that
we are tempted with, but he was tempted with
regards to physical desires, possessions and
power, and pride.

N3 - How did He do it? Resist temptation it’s just so hard.

N1 - Cathy, Shirley and Margaret can certainly attest to
that fact. Lets join them at their church’s coffee
hour.
