January 2001

Greetings:

Charlie Brown and Lucy were discussing New Year resolutions.  Charlie Brown asked, "Are you going to make any New Year’s resolutions, Lucy?

"WHAT?"  Lucy answers.  What for?  What’s wrong with me now?   I LIKE MYSELF JUST THE WAY I AM! WHY SHOULD I CHANGE?!   WHAT IN THE WORLD IS THE MATTER WITH YOU CHARLIE BROWN?!!

I am all right the way I am!   I don’t HAVE to improve!   How COULD I improve?   HOW, I ask you?!   HOW?"

Perhaps Lucy is right in not making resolutions. Not right in her reason for not making resolution, but right in not making New Year’s resolutions. I feel better not making resolutions than making resolutions year after year and failing to keep them.

I don’t make New Year’s resolutions because I make daily resolutions. Daily resolutions are more doable.

Daily resolutions are more consistent with God and life. God gives us one day at a time. God provides us with our daily bread. This being true it makes more sense to make a resolution to change your behavior, or improve your life one day at a time.

The success of any 12 step recovery program is in living one day at a time and living that day trusting your higher power. For me that higher power is Jesus. Each day I resolve to know Jesus, to be like Jesus, to be all that Jesus has in mind for me.

I extend an invitation to join me with my resolutions. I am certain you will find that it will make a difference in your every day life in this new year.

I wish each and everyone of you
a "3H" year and millennium.

(Happy, Healthy, and Holy!!!)

Happy New Year,

In Christ,

Watch & Pray

Throughout history there have been men and women who have demonstrated that it takes not a spiritual "superstar" to accomplish great acts for the Kingdom of God, but humble, believing people - like you - who are willing to take God at His Word, sacrifice their own personal desires, discipline themselves to "watch and pray," and leave the rest up to God. YOU are invited to be one of those people and participate in a faith filled thirty minutes of prayers every Thursday morning at 9:30 A.M. in the choir room to offer prayers of intersession and thanksgiving, to pray earnestly and witness to the powerful results god will bring about.
