February 2001

Greetings:

This month’s greeting is going to vary from the usual. I just want to share with you a number of happenings in the life of your church.

Jacqueline Rotteveel was ordained on Sunday, January 14th. It has been a while since a member of our congregation became an ordained minister. We need to celebrate with Jacqueline and give thanks to God that Jacqueline will continue her work as chaplain at St. Peter’s hospital AND remain as a member of our congregation, where she will continue to share her gifts with us and for the glory of God.

Greg Weyer gave his testimony to the congregation. I realize: that giving testimonies are not a part of our tradition; that perhaps some people were uncomfortable; that Greg sought to lift up not himself, but the grace and goodness of God and to challenge us in our spiritual walk to and with God.

Annalee Lakey will be completing her work with us as of January 31st. God has been so good to us, to have given us Annalee to serve as a student minister for 3 years and then to serve as interim minister of music of word for almost another year.  Annalee continues to work toward ordination and receiving a call to serve as pastor of a church. Until then she will continue to write for Guidepost, speak and preach at conferences, workshops and churches in the area.

Camilla Jarnot, our new choir master and organist, begins her ministry of music with us on February 1st. Camilla has a very impressive resume which includes, having taught and/or been an organist at Boston U, 1st & 2nd Church in Boston, St. Mary’s School, St. John’s the Baptist, Windsor Parish in England and others. More impressive is her passion for music and her desire to "develop, support and enhance the music ministry of St. Paul’s.

God has indeed proven once again His faithfulness to us. He continues to empower us with Word and Spirit and gifted people.  Please PRAY DAILY for these people and for the glory of God to be revealed through them and through St. Paul’s.
In Christ,

The Psalms

I invite you to join me this year in reading the Psalms.
I made a commitment to read a Psalm each day.
I have found this commitment has been a real gift to me.
I have enjoyed it so much that I want to challenge you to join me.
On February 1, I will be reading Psalm 32.
You could start there OR start with Psalm 1.
Since there are 365 days in the year and only 150 Psalms
it means we will read each Psalm at least twice.

We Need To Pray...
Right Now!

An elderly gentleman asked Dr. Norman Vincent Peale to pray for him.  Dr. Peale said, "Sure, I’ll pray for you, but why?"

"I’m trying to find myself," the man answered.

"How old are you?" Mr. Peale asked.

"Eighty-five."

"In that case we need to pray right now!" Mr. Peale responded.

Are you in need of prayer?

Are you looking for someone to pray with?

Every Thursday morning at 9:30 am people gather in the choir room, to offer prayers of intercession and thanksgiving.
