Men of St. Paul’s

January & February

Wow, are we off to a great start or what!!!  The first meeting in the new millennium of the Men of St. Paul’s was a real whopper.  The meeting was a joint meeting with the Women’s Guild.  Thanks to the efforts and overwhelming excitement of Greg Weyer, not to mention his able bodied side kick and A/V guy, we enjoyed a tremendous fellowship.  Greg regaled us with some of the highlights of his semester in Israel, and Rich helped out too.  It didn’t make me want to go back to school but it certainly made me want to go to Israel.  The attendance was such that not only were there folks there that we haven’t seen in a long time but some I’ve never seen!  Thank you Greg and Rich.  I feel sorry for those of you who missed it, it was great!

Dot Madell prepared another delicious meal, ham was on the menu because it is, after all, the start of a new year.  Dot was assisted by her crew of ladies.  We thank you all.

President Dennis Lowe didn’t have much to say, which in itself was a highlight, and kept the business to a minimum.

February 5th, as you may recall, was a quite snowy night, but six of the heartiest of the men of St. Paul’s were undaunted and met for dinner and fellowship anyway.  Actually, the storm started late in the day and Dot Madell already had the food prepared, so actually it was six of the hungriest Men of St. Paul’s. Due to the weather, no business was conducted.  The program for the night consisted of packaging up the leftovers and cleaning the dishes.  The six men were Andrew L, John b, Greg H, Peter H, and myself. (see Dennis I told you I didn’t need to write them down.)

The next meeting is March 5th, I don’t know what Dennis has planned but I believe the meal is corned beef and cabbage.  I’ve never had CB&C any better than Dot Madell’s, except my wife’s, of course, so don’t miss it!

Respectfully submitted,

Jack Perry, Secretary

Women’s Guild

The Women’s Guild business meeting and Valentine Calendar Tea was held on Wednesday evening, February 14, 2001. The President, Doris Weber, conducted the meeting.  Correspondence was read by the acting Secretary.  Grace Novello, Treasurer, gave a financial report.  Doris reported that seventy Valentine gift packages were appropriately wrapped and delivered to the Roosevelt Care Center.

On Friday, March 2nd (11:30 a.m.), a light luncheon will be served at the Church Women United meeting. The Women’s Guild will prepare the luncheon. Then on March 25th at 2:00 p.m. the statewide meeting of Church World Service will meet at St. Paul’s and they requested an international theme.  Several women volunteered to make various ethnic foods.

In gathering devotions were led by Doris with several of the women participating.  Next Guild meeting will be on Wednesday evening, April 11th, at 7:30 p.m. The Brownie Scout troop will present a program.

Esther & Martha Circle

The Esther & Martha Circles met at the home of Arlene Kuhlthau on Monday evening, February 19 with twelve members present. Grace Novello’s timely devotions were: "Legend of the Valentine" and historical reading about the lives of George Washington and Abraham Lincoln.  We worked on the candy box favors for the Church Women United Luncheon.

Doris Weber reminded us of several meeting dates in March (see Women’s Guild notes) and our participation in same.  We had a discussion of ways we could strengthen the Guild – several suggestions were made and will be adapted to future meetings.

The next meeting will be held on March 19th at Marjorie Conger’s home – Marie Rittman will have devotions.
