Lenten "Talent"

Jesus told a story about a man who received a "talent", a gift of money entrusted to him by his boss.

What was he to do?

He did not want to lose it, but he was afraid to invest it. So he hid it, keeping it safe, but later was rebuked for not using the talent he was given.

What happened here?

The man’s decision was based, not on a desire to be faithful, but on fear of failure. He was afraid to act and so lost out on his boss’s commendation.

You are being asked to faithfully put $.50 a day in your Lenten folder, not out of fear, but out of a desire to use the talents God has given you for the glory of His name and church.

Men of St. Paul’s

A higher than average number of men met for dinner and fellowship on Monday, March 12. The meeting had been postponed from the previous meeting due to the predicted bad weather.  After Pastor Rich asked the blessing we enjoyed our annual St. Patrick’s day dinner.  Thank you Dot, as usual it was delicious.

After dinner, Dennis Lowe conducted a short meeting. During the meeting Greg Henninger presented the information on a new refrigerator.  Jim Voorhees made a motion, seconded by Ray Conger, to purchase a 21 cubic foot model and the motion was carried unanimously.

Dennis then introduced Bob Cenar and Ron Green of the Kairos Prison MinistriesBob is a friend and co-worker of Tony Scelsa.  They gave us a very interesting and informative talk about their work to bring the light and word of God to various state and federal prisons.  After the program it was decided to send them a donation of $100.00 in cookies towards their next week-end program. We were trying to offer a donation and homemade cookies since Bob and Ron explained how much these guys enjoy the cookies at the weekend "retreats".  Unfortunately, the cookies cannot be homemade, I guess they worry about baked-in files.

The next meeting is scheduled for April 2nd.  Be there!!

Respectfully submitted,

Jack Perry, Secretary

Women’s Guild

Wednesday, April 11th at 7:30 p.m. the Brownie Troop, that the Guild sponsors, will present a program at our monthly meeting in the Social Hall.

Wednesday, May 9th at 6:30 p.m.
we will have our Annual Covered Dish.

We wish to invite all of our Church ladies to attend both of these meetings.

Doris Weber,
President

Esther & Martha Circle

The Esther & Martha Circle met on Monday evening, March 19th at the home of Marjorie Conger. We had a wonderful attendance and warmly welcomed a visitor, Catherine Voorhees.

Marie Rittman had devotions using one of Peter Marshall’s sermons on "forgiveness" which was entitled "Letters In The Sand". She read from the book "A Man Named Peter". This is an excellent book written by Catherine Marshall in memory of her late husband, Peter Marshall.

We discussed the Church World Service luncheon which will be held on Sunday, March 25th in our Social Hall.  Many women offered to help and to make "international" food.  We also planned our refreshments for the April 11th Guild meeting when we have a program by the Guild-sponsored Brownie troop. Appropriately, the Brownies will be served "brownies" (plus other goodies)!!

Next meeting will be held on Wednesday evening, April 23rd, at Doris Weber’s home. Flo Torok will have devotions.

An Easter quiz,

"Who Wants To Be A Millionaire??"

style, was hosted by "Regis Conger". The quiz was thought-provoking and we all participated in some lively discussions.  Everyone did well and did not have to use a "lifeline"!!!

Although Jesus is no longer on earth in bodily form, He is still with us in spirit.  He is our guide and Savior, who will lead us through this earthly life and into eternal life beyond.  We can talk to Him in prayer.  He speaks to us through the Bible and our consciences.  He strengthens us with His love.

"That is our final answer!!"

A Blessed Easter to all!!

Marjorie Conger,
Secretary
