May 2000

Greetings,

The beggar waves his tattered paper cup and asks, "Have any spare change?"

His plea is unheard by the average person who passes him by.

Why is that?

Have we become insensitive to the needs of those in financial distress?

Do we doubt the sincerity of their request or their need?

Is it that we don’t believe they will spend the money wisely, that instead of food they will buy more booze?

I doubt very much it’s because we don’t have change in our purse or pockets.   I would venture to guess that most people, like myself have a spare change jar or container in their homes.

At the end of every day we empty our pockets and throw the change into the container.   We have no special plans for the money.   Someday we will wrap it and take it to the bank, until then we will continue to throw our change into our container to spend it on God knows what.

Sunday, June 11 is

SPARE CHANGE SUNDAY

Your church is asking YOU, can you spare any change?

We are asking because we do honestly need it.  We need it
because we find ourselves in debt through the first four months of the year.

We need it because traditionally, financial support tapers off during the summer months.  Since our ministry does not taper off, we often find ourselves deeper in debt in September.

YOUR spare change could change that.

YOUR spare change would be put to good use.  It will help support the preaching and teaching of God’s Word.

YOUR spare change could help change the lives we minister to.

YOUR spare change could be OUR way of reducing our debt.

Bring your SPARE CHANGE to church on Sunday, June 11.

We are hoping that our request will not go unheard.  Our need is sincere.   Our use of the money will be spent wisely.
In Christ,

Imagine This:

Your children are grown and gone, and you miss them terribly.  Much to your sorrow, they call home only once in a blue moon - or not all.

This is loosely akin to the relationship that many of us have with God.  There are some who check in regularly, and some who never bother to call Home.

Which are you?

Scripture says,

"Draw near to God and He will draw near to you."
"The Lord is near to all that call upon Him,
who call upon Him in truth."

You can call home every Thursday morning at
9:30 A.M.
by attending a thirty minute prayer service
which is held in the sanctuary.

National Day of Prayer

Thursday May 4

The sanctuary will be open from

8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

A service of prayer will be held at
12 Noon.
