May 2002....

Greetings,

Ground Zero!

Before September 11th did you have any idea what the term Ground Zero meant?  I suspected it was a military term, but I had no idea what it meant.  So I asked my Dad, a Navy veteran of both World War II and the Korean War, if he knew.   He told me Ground Zero was the point at which the explosion of an atom bomb occurs.

While no atomic bomb exploded on September 11th the events of that day impacted our lives so that an atomic bomb might just as well as exploded.  The memories of the day’s events have been permanently etched into our minds.  We will forever remember what we were doing or where we were when terrorists declared war on America.

Since that day millions of people have made a pilgrimage to Ground Zero. Ground Zero the point at which the explosion of terrorism occurred and forever changed American life.

I am hopeful:

That it has changed American life for the better.

That America tomorrow will be a kinder, gentler America, an America where we don’t abuse or neglect one another, our resources or our environment.

That September 11th has made people take an inventory of their own life, their relationships, and their faith.

That every American is not thirsting for revenge but for God.

That Ground Zero will take on a new and deeper meaning, that Ground Zero would become the point at which God explodes into our lives and our living transforming us with His Word and Spirit.

That Ground Zero will be those places in our lives where God’s Word and Will explode - destroying habits and behaviors that are not Christ like.

That you and I will allow God to explode into our lives as God did on Pentecost.  According to Acts 2

“When the day of Pentecost came,
they
(the apostle’s) were all together
in one place.   Suddenly a sound like
the blowing of a violent wind came
from heaven and filled the whole
house where they were sitting.
They saw what seemed to be tongues
of fire that separated and came to
rest on each of them.  All of them
were filled with the Holy Spirit…”

I am hopeful that May 19th, Pentecost Sunday will be our Ground Zero, a day when God makes His presence known in amazing and fantastic ways.

Open your heart to the Lord!

Prayerfully yours in Christ,

Chinese Auction

Help! Help! Help! We need your help! We are planning another Chinese Auction for September 27. We need help with solicitations and donations so we’ll have something to auction off!  So please start bargain hunting for things that we can use in the auction.  We will put the gift tree up soon if you need ideas, but start looking at the clearance table and sale racks for bargains! Cookware, household items, linens, knickknacks, - anything you would want for yourself would be great for the auction. While the auction draws a crowd from outside our church, the success for the auction depends on you! The generosity of our members is what helps us raise money for the restoration and parlor funds. With your support, this auction will be better than ever!
