Greetings;

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers,
whenever you face trials of many kinds,
because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance.
Perseverance must finish its work
so that you may be mature and complete,
not lacking anything.”

James 1:2-4 (NIV)

You all probably know by now my year consists of five seasons. There is spring, summer, fall, winter and the Baseball season. Baseball season is in full swing. Like every season there are teams and players getting off to a slower starts then expected. There are also teams with more wins and players with higher batting averages than anticipated.

What I am particularly enjoying this season is being in a fantasy baseball league with my sons and college friends. The lamentations, banter and bragging rights this early in the season have been abundant.

One thing I have learned about the baseball season is that it is a long season. Players and teams that have started off hot can slump and players that have started of in a slump can get hot. There will be plays that will make the highlight reels and the blooper reels. The season will be full of highs and lows and ups and downs.

I find baseball parallels life.  Life contains its joys and sorrows, it's highs and lows, its streaks and it slumps.  It is easy to know what to do when life is going well, but what are you to do when it is not?

James wrote that we should “consider it great joy whenever you face trials.” Notice James says, whenever not if. Trials are part of life, which we all experience. God gives us trials to help us improve our walk with Him.

When ball players are confronted with the trials of a slump they turn to the coaches. Their coaches help them with basic workouts to help work out the kinks.

As Christians we need to turn to our heavenly coach, we need to spend time in prayer, spend time reading the divine Word of God, seeking Godly council, and being still and waiting on God.

Today, if you find yourself in a spiritual slump, seek God’s instruction to get back in the game.

In Christ
