A Piece of Cake

| A large chocolate cake sat
on the communion table. Next to the cake was a sign, “Family
Income.” Several individuals walked down
the aisle wearing signs such as, ‘House
payment,’ ‘Car
payment,’ ‘Groceries,’ ‘Insurance,’ ‘Medical Bills.’
Each asked for a piece of cake and the worship leader gladly gave one to
them.
Another individual wearing a sign that read ‘church,’ came down the aisle. He was told to wait a minute. Other people wearing other signs came forward. These signs read ‘Utilities,’ ‘School Tuition,’ ‘Clothing,’ and ‘Entertainment.’ Each received a piece. ‘Church’ came to the table again. There was no piece left, just crumbs. As you think of your ‘cake’ of family income, what priority does God have? Do you give God the first piece, the second, or the crumbs? Your church’s expenses exceeded income through April by $9,930.69. |

Women’s Guild

|
The Guild held its Annual Covered Dish Supper on Wednesday, May 9th. The variety of food was pleasing to the palate. We honored the oldest person present as well as the youngest child present. Each was presented with a hanging plant. For our program, Linda Jones read a “Prayer for My Mother” and needless to say this touched all of us. Three generations of the Klesitz family presented readings. Dot read from the “Book of Love Poems”. Each of her family had a reading, the youngest read the meaningful poem, “Mother”. After the program, Doris presided at a short business meeting. Secretary read a thank you letter from Church World Service held at our Church (see letter) The Guild was also given a Certificate of Appreciation. Doris reviewed the upcoming church activities. Our meeting was closed with a reading by Doris and a poem “Fragrance of Flowers”. Good food, inspirational program and Christian Fellowship made our evening an enjoyable one. Next Guild meeting, Wednesday, June 13th. End of the year reports are due. Ladies of the church come and learn what our Groups and Guild do. Ruth C. Karren |

E
sther & Martha Circle|
The Martha & Esther Circle met on Tuesday, May 22nd in the Social Hall for a lunch and craft meeting. (We each brought our own lunch and Flo Torok surprised us with homemade soup. Tasted real good on a rainy day! Thank you, Flo.) Evelyn Junker read several devotions about “counting our blessings”, “being at peace with God”, “praying daily” and “laughter as a tranquilizer”. (Good food for thought.) Flo reminded us of our various commitments: Our circle is responsible for Coffee Hour on Sunday, June 3rd. Regular Guild meeting will be June 13th (Dot Klesitz will have devotions and Doris Weber refreshments). We will sponsor a pizza party for the Brownie Scout troop - date to be determined by the Scouts. Under the guidance of Arlene Kuhlthau, we made patriotic favors for the recipients of Meals-on-Wheels. Good job, Arlene! Due to the busyness of our members, we have cancelled our May “going out for dinner” date. There will be no more meetings of this Circle until September 17th (7:30 p.m.) when we meet at the home of Grace Novello. Marjorie Conger will have devotions. We wish everyone a happy, healthy and safe summer. Marjorie Conger |
