June 2002

Greetings,

If man evolved from apes why do we still have apes?

If I go into a bookstore and ask a salesperson, “Where is the Self Help Section?” am I defeating the purpose?

If a parsley farmer is sued do they garnish his wages?

If a mime is arrested do they tell him he has the right to talk?

Is there another word for synonym?

Is it true that cannibals won’t eat clowns because they taste funny?

Is a shellless turtle homeless or just plain naked?

Can vegetarians eat animal crackers?

Why do kamikaze pilots wear helmets and parachutes?

Why do they put Braille on the drive through bank machines?

What should you do if you see an endangered animal eating an endangered plant?

What was the best thing before sliced bread?

I know the above questions were somewhat silly, but trust me they are no more or no less funny than some of the questions about life that our culture does wrestle with.  Such as which came first the chicken or the egg.  Personally, I say it was the chicken that came first.  If the egg came first there would not have been any chickens because there would not have been any chicken to sit on the egg and hatch it.  Therefore the chicken came first so that when the chicken laid the first egg it would sit on the egg and hatch it.

This leads me to question how did the chicken know to sit on the egg AND did the chicken know that by sitting on the egg another chicken would be hatched?

By now you are probably wondering where I am going with this greeting.  Well so am I?  Consider this month’s greeting to be a Junior Sermon.

So as I ask the children every Sunday how does this relate to God?

I don’t what your answer is but my answer is Hebrews 11:1

Faith is being sure of what you hope for and certain of what we
do not see.

The footnote for this verse in the Life Application Bible reads.  Two words describe faith: sure and certain.  These two qualities need a secure beginning and ending point.
The beginning point of faith is believing in God’s character

He is who He says.

The ending point is believing in God’s promises

He will do what He says.

It does not matter if you can or cannot solve life’s mysteries.  All that matters is that you have FAITH in the ONE GOD who fully revealed himself to us in the person of Jesus Christ.
Prayerfully yours in Christ,

.
