On behalf or Milltown Junior Girl Scout Troops 231 & 1090,

I would like to thank the St. Paul’s Church community for their generous donations to the soldiers in Iraq.  Your response was overwhelming.  We collected nearly 500 pounds of personal items which were packed into 19 “goodie boxes” and sent to Iraq. We wish the soldiers well and hope for their safe and speedy return.
Thanks again.

Women’s Guild

We had a pot luck luncheon meeting on Wednesday, May 14th, with 20 in attendance.

Donna Young, our president welcomed all. Ruth Karren offered the prayer before the meeting.

You who were not there do not know what you missed, delicious food and a very interesting program.

Flo Torok had devotions and her message was “Love One Another”. Her selected scripture readings reinforced her message.

Our guest speaker was Sue Dowling of Interfaith. We all were so enlightened to learn what a care giving organization this is. Anyone who would like to be a volunteer to help those in need, contact Sue. The member whose birthday was nearest the May date was given a cook book by Sue. The winners were Chris Schmidt of the Sarah Circle and Grace Novello of the Martha Circle.

We followed with a short business meeting. It was voted to send a donation to the Interfaith. The Guild will be responsible to have the blinds cleaned in the Social Hall as soon as the remainder of new windows are installed.

Alice Plantec, chairperson Golden Chain of Care of St. Paul’s is also in need of help to contact our 34 shut-ins. If you can make a visit or send a “cheer-up” card please contact Alice.

Flo gave the closing prayer and then presented us with beautiful pansies as her gift of friendship.

Next regular meeting will be on Wednesday, June 11 at 7:30 p.m. in the Social Hall.

Remember END OF THE YEAR REPORTS are due at this meeting.

Ruth C. Karren
Secretary

Martha Circle

The Martha Circle met on Monday evening, May 19th and the meeting was opened with devotions by Hazel Ecker. Hazel shared with us two beautiful poems that she had written entitled “Christian Women” and “Pride in Milltown” – and, also read a tribute to Mother’s Day and a tribute to Memorial Day. (Nice devotions, Hazel.)

Our leader, Ruth Karren, conducted the meeting. After hearing the Treasurer’s report, we decided to give $200.00 to the Guild for their stewardship projects. The Sarah Circle thanked our group for their participation in their recent bake sale.

Dorothy Schroff is putting the finishing touches on a quilt that was started by a former member, Louise Christ, and it will be displayed in the new parlor room when it is completed.

We will have a “kitchen cleaning get-to-gether” on Wednesday, June 4th at 9:30 a.m. – please bring general cleaning supplies and of course your much needed “elbow grease”!!!

We all enjoyed our discussion about Mothers of the bible, and Ruth gave each of us one hundred on “our homework”. (Great idea, Ruth.)

There will be no June Circle meeting (only Guild meeting on June 11th). Our next meeting will be on September 15 in the Social Hall. Ruth will continue as our leader, Hazel Ecker will be the new secretary and Marjorie Conger will continue as Treasurer.

Have a wonderful summer
keep happy, keep healthy!!!

Marjorie Conger,
Secretary
