HIGHLIGHTS OF
REGULAR MONTHLY
CONSISTORY MEETING
May 10, 2007
Minutes of
the April Consistory meeting were presented and approved.
Financials: Carolyn Erb
confirmed that money had been transferred to the checking account in
order to pay the bills. Some discussion followed regarding the
upcoming copier lease. Apparently several companies are bidding for
the new lease.
Motion approved to accept April financials.
Correspondence:
A letter of appreciation was received from
Laura Pelszynski
for the donation toward her upcoming People to People trip.
Lisa Eisenhauer
requested the use of the sanctuary to present an award winning play
about autism. Motion approved.
Ministry teams:
Finance and
Administration
Tidings due on the 17th
The Men’s group will choose where the June communion offering is to
be donated.
Church and Family Life:
Communion on May 27th, Confirmation Sunday, team 2 is responsible
Communion on June 3rd Team 3 is responsible.
By a consensus, consistory members serving communion will also serve
as ushers, eliminating the need for extra ushers and alleviate some
of the congestion in the Narthex. Also, the use of communion cards
will be replaced by printing the statement “I/We have communed
today.” followed by a box to check on the back of the communion
offertory envelope.
Young Adult group will meet for breakfast on Sat. June 2nd followed
by an Interfaith Network of Care project.
Education:
Sunday school: the teachers met after worship to discuss lesson
plans. The annual teachers’ dinner will be held on June 19th.
Jr. Youth Group: $220.00 was collected at the bake sale and supplies
for 17 Church World Service education kits were purchased, assembled
and shipped.
Sr. Youth Group: Sunday, May 20th Emily has organized a trip to
“Evensong” at St. Thomas Church in NYC. The service will be
previewed by Emily
and discussion will follow. Church will be followed by a trip down
5th Ave. to Rockefeller Center. Adult chaperones are needed and
encouraged.
Mission plans are being finalized. There are opening for 2 more
youth.
Confirmation: May 27th. The church elders will meet with the
confirmands on the 23rd at 7:30 to hear their faith statements.
Adult: The bible study of Ephesians has had a great turnout with 22
members between the Tues. night and Wed. afternoon classes.
Property and Grounds:
The sanctuary track lights were repaired, and 1 chandelier light is
out. A volunteer has been identified to install hot water in the
church bathrooms. A suggestion was made to approach
Quinto
about re-tiling the bathrooms in the church building as well as get
his opinion concerning the hallway and social hall floors. Estimates
will be sorted for new carpet in the confirmation room as well as
window treatments for the Chapel and confirmation room.
Plans are in progress for the installation of electric lines for
several classrooms so that window air conditioners can be installed.
A date needs to be identified when the necessary people and some
volunteers are available.
Some discussion followed regarding the drainage from the front of
the Ed. building and the repair of the retaining wall on the side.
More planning is required.
Old Business:
Thirty-six tickets to “Dare to Share” program trip were purchased
for the youth. This is a program to help teens “faith to survive”.
The trip is to Washington D.C. on Nov. 2nd and 3rd. the trip details
have not been finalized yet.
New Business:
A request to place a clothing bin on the church property was denied
after a brief discussion.
A request was raised to see about smaller, less conspicuous speakers
in the front of the church under the screens, as the large ones on
stands are rather distracting.
Gary Conger
requested that the flags be placed
back in the church. The flags were removed for cleaning following
the fire. An oversight kept them from being replaced.
A request was received from
Mayor Bradford asking if we
would re-consider allowing SACC use the social hall this summer.
Considerable discussion followed. A motion to grant use was made
provided SACC and Milltown agree to the list of terms. The motion
was approved with negative votes being cast.
Respectfully submitted,
Jack Perry,
Secretary |
