July 2006

Greetings,

Several months ago, while visiting my parents, Diane and I visited model homes in a new development next door. Needless to say we found our dream retirement home. The floor plan was exactly what we wanted. The development had many amenities. Plus it was within walking distance to my folks.

Since that walk through, the thought of entering into a contract to build has weaved its way in and out of many conversations.

This past week Diane and I put down a deposit to reserve a lot and to make the necessary arrangements to go to contract. Having never been in this situation we were very excited and very scared.

With many questions to be answered, contracts to be read and finances to be worked out we took the attitude that if it is God’s will it will all work out.

Can we do this? This was the prevailing question. Diane was leaning more NO, while I was leaning more YES. Every time Diane would raise a concern I would attempt to dismiss it by reassuring her we could do it.

Have you ever wanted something so bad that you turned a deaf ear to objections or sound advice? Have you let your desires cloud your judgment? Well that was me. As Diane read the contract and the association rules, I was the saying, “You had to read that wrong.”

She wasn’t reading it wrong. She was reading things I didn’t want to hear. I may have said, “God will.” But I was doing my will.

God was making it obvious that we should not go to contract. So we didn’t. Are we disappointed? Yes! Did we waste our time? Definitely not! God revealed His will. Had we not gone through the process we would be left wondering. Now we are certain we made the right decision.

I have shared this story because I feel the church is in a similar situation with regards to reconsidering, because of a shortage of Sunday School teachers, we have to decide if we should have separate times for Sunday school and worship or do both at the same time.

I am asking every member to prayerful seek God’s will. Which will glorify God the most? Which will edify our fellowship the most? Who will teach our children?

May God’s will be done!
