September 2000

Greetings,

The story is told of a pastor who took a vacation and decided to make it a golfing holiday.  He went to a golf resort, and on his first day out he learned that Arnold Palmer played the course frequently.

The toughest hole was the 17th, and as the pastor approached the tee his caddie said, "When Arnold Palmer plays this hole he uses a three iron and says a little prayer."

"I’ll give it a try," said the pastor.  He followed the caddie’s suggestion, but his ball landed in the water in front of the hole.  "Ah, well," the pastor said, "I guess the good Lord didn’t hear me."

"He probably heard you," said the caddie, "but when Mr. Palmer says his prayer, he keeps his head down."

As the Fall approaches and many of our ministries start up again after a summer break, I ask you to pray for our ministries.  As you pray, keep in mind the above story.  Prayer does not relieve you of your responsibilities.  As Alan Smith points out in his Thought for the Day web site, "we pray for our daily bread, but we don’t stay home from work waiting for God to give it to us.

Prayer should not motivate us to do nothing. Rather it should motivate us to do even more as we turn our lives over to God to use."

Please pray for our church’s ministries and as you do keep in mind you are the answer to our prayers.

In Christ,

Then it is Colossians where Paul seeks to show
that believers have everything in Christ.
After which we read both of Paul’s letters

Welcome Back Annalee

Annalee has returned to St. Paul’s.

Many of you know that Annalee is a gifted
Pastor and Preacher,
but did you know that she is also a gifted musician.
Several times this summer Annalee was our organist.
While she is looking for a full time call
and we are looking for an Organist/Choir Director
Annalee has agreed to be an
Interim Minister of Music and the Word.
Annalee will spend 20 hours a week,
2/3rds of the time she will spend in the area of music
and 1/3rd of the time she will spend in the area of
ministry of the Word.
