September 2001

Greetings,

I want to share with you the following thoughts, which were written by Christian Ditchfield and published in Sports Spectrum’s Power Up daily devotional.

“The body is not made of
one part but of many.”
1 Cor. 12:14

Name a team sport-any team sport.

Now think of the different kinds of players that make up a team.  Every team has specific positions for its players. Athletes are chosen and placed in the position that best suits their abilities and the needs of the team.  There is no such thing as an unnecessary position.  For a team to play the game, it must fill all positions.

Some positions give a player the chance to see a lot more action than others. Some roles seem to get more time in the spotlight. But each member plays a vital role in the team’s performance.

YOU are on a very special team. As the apostle Paul explained,

“The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and though all its parts are many, they form one body…God has arranged the parts in the body, every one of them, just as
He wanted them to be…You are the body of Christ (the church), and each one of you is a part of it.”
-
1 Cor. 12:12,18,27

Just as a sports team needs a full line-up of players, so does St. Paul’s need all of its people working together to function the way He intended. God has given you special talents and abilities, so that we can help each other and do His work here on earth. Each of us is necessary. You can’t afford to sit on the sidelines.

Your church needs you!

As you read this month’s Tidings you will become aware of many opportunities for you to share your gifts, to be good stewards of your time, talent and treasures.

I ask you to take time to identify some of the unique talents and abilities God has given you.  Think of some specific ways you can use your gifts, like singing in the choir, helping in Sunday school, working with the youth groups, helping with the contemporary service, contributing your money.  By using your gifts you will bring glory to God, help others and help your church’s ministry.

Prayerfully yours in Christ,
