Three preachers sat discussing the best positions for prayer while a telephone repairman worked nearby.

"Kneeling is definitely best," claimed one.

"No," another contended. "I get the best results standing with my hands outstretched to heaven."

"You're both wrong," the third insisted. "The most effective prayer position is lying prostrate, face down on the floor."

The repairman could contain himself no longer. "Hey, fellas, " he interrupted, "the best prayin' I ever did was hangin' upside down from a
telephone pole!"

Many of you can relate to that. The times when prayer has been most meaningful are those times when we have been most in need of God's help.
Times when we were helpless. Times when we were powerless. Times when we realized how inadequate we were, and how much we had to rely on God's power and goodness.

"O Lord, God of my salvation, I have cried out day and night before you. Let my prayer come before you; incline your ear to my cry. For my soul is full of troubles, and my life draws near the grave..." (Psalm 88:1-3).

In your hour of deepest need, may you offer your most meaningful prayers.
