How Far Away is God

Although not condoned, it was well known within the Virginia State Highway Authority that sometimes people would "sneak away" for a game of golf during the day.

One fellow had forgotten which course his friend Dan said to meet him on and called, only to have his secretary say, "I'm sorry he's away from his desk right now."

Knowing she'd never admit where Dan really was, he asked, "Tell me, is he ten miles away from his desk or twenty-two miles away?"

Sometimes we wonder how far away God is from us.  There are times when it seems that God has turned his back and isn't paying attention.  Even David was led in his pain to ask the question,

"My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? Why are You so far from helping Me....?"
(Psa. 22:1).

But, deep down, David truly understood that

"The LORD is near to all who call upon Him,
to all who call upon Him in truth."

(Psa. 145:18).

Our God, though seated in the heavens, is not ten miles away or twenty-two miles away.  He is nearby, which is a tremendous comfort to us in our times of deepest need.

Have a great week!

In Jesus' name, Amen.
