!!!!
Each week you will be able to read a devotional thought
which we hope you will find enjoyable and comforting
as well as insightful and challenging.

Making Jesus Lord.

The boss was complaining in a staff meeting that he wasn't getting any respect. Later that morning he went to a local sign shop and bought a small sign that read: "I'm the Boss!" He then taped it to his office door.

Later that day when he returned from lunch, he found that someone had taped a note to the sign that said: "Your wife called, she wants her sign back!"

It would be far too easy to make some snide remarks at this point regarding the marriage relationship, but allow me to take the analogy in a different direction. How often do we all try to live our lives with the motto, "I'm the boss!"? What I say is important, what I want is what needs to be done, you are here only for the purpose of satisfying my needs and my desires.

Every now and then, we need a reminder: "Jesus called and he wants his sign back." You see, the throne of our heart is not a "two-seater". In fact, I suspect, you've never seen a throne that was designed to accommodate two people. A throne is intended for only one, and that place in our hearts can only be filled by one person. When we put ourselves in that position, we remove Jesus from his rightful place.

We often hear preachers tell folks about the need to "make Jesus your Savior." As important as that may be, it is just as important to "make Jesus your Lord" and I don't hear that taught nearly as much. May we develop the attitude of a servant who says, "What would you like for me to do? What you say is important. What you want is what needs to be done. I am here only for the purpose of satisfying your needs and your desires."

"Therefore let all Israel be assured of this:
God has made this Jesus,
whom you crucified,
both Lord and Christ."

(Acts 2:36)

Jesus called and he wants his sign back!

In Jesus' name, Amen.
